Freelance Design Lead – Hilton Head Whole Foods Market (2013)
In 2013, I led the freelance design effort for the transformation of the former Piggly Wiggly into a new Whole Foods Market on Hilton Head Island. The project involved developing complete environmental and architectural design plans, collaborating closely with fabricators, and translating concept into execution on-site.

I visited Hilton Head multiple times to research local culture, history, and materials, ensuring the design reflected the community’s character while aligning with Whole Foods’ brand. The result was a space that blended regional authenticity with a modern vacation-destination and kid-friendly retail experience.

Dylan Cole provided a very valuable assist when planning the project. Dylan is an architect, artist and at the time was resident Design Studio Coordinator at the Walker Art Center, and is now managing the studio at MCAD. For the several months we talked, drew, thought, debated, re-drew, measured, worked, reworked until we had an experience planned for the space that matched the optimism of a gorgeous vacation haven in the low-country islands of the Atlantic.

Ben at Oxform Studio did the amazing woodwork on the tables. Photos courtesty of Whole Foods - Hilton Head Island.
